Introduction

Hi everybody! My name is Katelyn Farmer. I usually go by Kate. I am an eighteen year old freshman here at WVSU. I just graduated from Hurricane High School. I was born and raised here in West Virginia. I grew up in the Hurricane/Teays Valley area. I am currently undecided about what I would like to get a degree in, but hopefully I'll figure it out after this semester.

I am very anxious to see what this class has to offer me. It seems to be an interesting class. I hope to broad my love of music. I am excited to learn about different styles and how they were created.

I sang in my church choir when I was growing up. I also took piano lessons for many years. As I have gotten older I have slacked off on playing piano, but I can still slightly read the notes. I have been a dancer since I was very young. Music is a big part of dancing; you must make your movements correspond to the music.

I am hoping to do the best that I can in this course. It is one of the three online courses I will be taking this semester. I really don't have any concerns at this time, I am just excited to learn. Hopefully I will be able to understand everything we discuss.

I am very passionate about traveling. I enjoy to go to new places and meet new people. I dream that one day I will be able to travel the world. I am also passionate about helping others. I would do anything in my power to make a difference in someone's life.

  1. Katelyn,

It was really interesting reading about your love of music and dance. Are you in a studio somewhere for dance?

I too love to travel! What's your favorite place you've ever been or someplace you'd really like to go? I love just about any place that's warm!!

  2. Hi Kate,

Welcome to WVSU, I'm a Junior here studying for my Bachelor's in Computer Science. I suppose I can forgive you for being from Hurricane haha, I'm from St. Albans. You're pretty brave for taking that many online courses, I still enjoy the classroom time (kind of odd of a CS major).

Well, good luck with the course and deciding on what you want to major in!

  3. Hi Kate,

Nice job on your introduction! I have several years of dance experience (although it doesn't look like it) and my main area of study is music integration into other subject areas. I use movement and music to teach a variety of different subjects--math, science, social studies, you name it, I'll teach it. Take care and let me know if you need any help with the course. Thanks!
